Dr Katharine Bate - Adult Cardiologist Northern Beaches

Dr Katharine Bate

BSc, MBBS, FRACP, PhD

Cardiologist

Dr Katharine Bate is a consultant physician and emerging academic cardiologist with a special interest in heart rhythm disorders, arrhythmias in pregnancy, and exercise as therapy for heart disease. Dr Bate completed both her physician and advanced cardiology training programs at Royal North Shore Hospital and is currently undertaking additional post-graduate subspecialty training in electrophysiology.

During Dr Bate's specialist training, she completed her PhD at the University of Sydney, studying the ways that atherosclerosis alters the immune system and determining how this could be used to develop biomarkers for early disease detection. Dr Bate won multiple prizes during her doctorate, including the Peter Bancroft Prize for submitting a thesis that was accepted without corrections and continues to work with her research colleagues in the Cardiovascular Discovery Group at the Kolling Institute of Medical Research, led by Professor Gemma Figtree.  Dr Bate's publications can be viewed here. Dr Bate also has an ongoing interest in medical education and is the current Course Co-Convenor for Cardiology in the Master of Medicine program at the University of Sydney.

Dr Bate originally comes from Vancouver, but after completing medical training in Australia she couldn't help but settle in Northern Sydney with her young family. Outside of medicine she is an enthusiastic amateur chef and bonsai gardener and enjoys keeping fit with the family by exploring Sydney's natural beauty.

Dr Bate is welcoming new referrals at Northern Beaches Hopsital.
